Boswellia Complex is a MediHerb product we
recommend for inflammatory conditions including rheumatoid arthritis,
osteoarthritis and gout.
It contains four herbs:
Boswellia serrata (Indian frankincense)
– Boswellia is a tree from India. The active ingredient is found in the tree
trunk. When the tree trunk is tapped, the gummy oleoresin, the active
ingredient, is captured. Boswellia has been shown to reduce inflammation in such
conditions as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis. It
helps maintain and support healthy joints. Boswellic acid works to block
leukotrienes. Leukotrienes are pro-inflammatory agents that cause inflammatory
reactions. By blocking leukotrienes, it is able to act as an anti-inflammatory
agent. It has a similar mechanism as NSAIDs, but boswellia does not cause
irritation or ulceration of the stomach lining.
Apium graveolens (Celery seed)
– Celery seed extract is mostly used for alleviating pain and inflammation from
arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout. It has been shown to reduce uric acid
levels, thus decreasing pain, muscle spasms, and inducing anti-inflammatory
activity.
Zingiber officinale (Ginger)
– Ginger is most commonly used for its anti-nausea effect. It also supports a
healthy cardiovascular system by inhibiting excessive platelet aggregation. It
prevents platelets from becoming “sticky” thus preventing clot formation. Ginger
may also protect stomach lining from the damaging effects of alcohol, and NSAIDs
and prevent ulceration.
Curcuma longa (Turmeric)
– Turmeric reduces inflammation by reducing histamine levels. It also may
increase the level of natural cortisone by the adrenal glands. Turmeric is a
strong antioxidant and it protects against free radicals.
